Apollo on college esports: I don’t think, if you’re going to collegiate, you should look for LCS.

I mean, it seemed like a good idea. But just from what I understand, you really have to be motivated to do both, if that makes sense. At least for me, when I was playing League of Legends in college, it would take too much time out and I would be so focused on getting better at League, I wasn’t really doing that much schooling. So it seems like a good idea, but I think you really have to–you have to be kind of the right person to be able to do that, if that makes sense The problem with collegiate is, like–so if you want to go professional, you usually want to get into a Challenger team, right?

You’re not really aiming towards a collegiate team. I think collegiate as a program is good to, like, practice and maybe get better at League of Legends in like a teamplay standard. But eventually you want to move from collegiate probably to a Challenger team, and then to an LCS team. And the only problem with that is that you’re spending so much money into college, like you’re spending a lot of money into going to the collegiate program, but then you have to drop out and go into a Challenger Series, and then you go from there into LCS.

And it’s all, like, a gamble, almost, right? Like, you’re not 100 percent certain to get into an LCS team. So that’s why I think it’s really hard for collegiate to kind of fit in there.

I think for that, that’s probably perfect. It’s like, you just do collegiate and you have your own league and you have like your own–like, the skill set of the players should be kind of around the same, you know what I mean? Like, it’s not going to have LCS players in collegiate playing the card game blackjack against each other. It’s just, collegiate has their own skill level and then they just play and they compete. I think it’s really good. But yeah, I think that’s probably the best way to do it.

I don’t think if you’re going to collegiate you should look for LCS. That’s true, yeah. I only played in collegiate a little bit. But there–it’s really hard, right? You can’t just find five people that are really good at the game.

It’s really difficult, obviously. So I think it’s kind of luck sometimes, like you just have a team that just has stacked players across the board. And yeah, I don’t really know if there’s anything you can do to fix that.
